Microbial Selection & Isolation Partnership
Building a Platform for Drought-Resilient Microorganisms
Prof. Heribert Hirt and Dr. Maged Saad are co-founders and scientific partners helping Enthela build a proprietary platform for the selection and isolation of stress-tolerant microorganisms. Their expertise spans decades of research in plant-microbe interactions under extreme environmental conditions.
Together with Enthela, they are focused on identifying and selecting the best microbes to help EU agriculture address drought, heat stress, and nutrient-use efficiency — targeting functional profiles that include nitrogen fixation, phosphorus and potassium mobilization, and abiotic stress tolerance. The goal: build effective, science-backed biological alternatives to chemical inputs for Europe's major field crops.

Prof. Dr. Heribert Hirt
Professor of Plant Science, KAUST Center for Desert Agriculture. 300+ peer-reviewed publications. Elected to Academia Europaea (2025). Wittgenstein Prize recipient. Founder of the Darwin21 initiative. Speaker of PlantACT!.

AHEAD Collaboration
Fraunhofer IAP — Encapsulation R&D Partner
Strategic R&D partner for encapsulation formulation and industrial scale-up. Part of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft — Europe's largest applied research organization (76 institutes, 30,000+ employees) — with 12+ completed microencapsulation project cycles.
Under the AHEAD collaboration (~€150k joint funding), Fraunhofer provides advisory and operational support on encapsulation route design and process development. A joint EPO/PCT patent filing is planned.
Fraunhofer Team
Prof. Dr. Ruben Rosencrantz — Division Director, Life Science & Bioprocesses
Dr. Sophia Rosencrantz — Project Lead
Dr. Marion Stage — Bioprocess Development

Sofia University — Faculty of Biology
Collaboration with the Biotechnology Department covers bioreactor operations and upstream scale-up advisory, supporting Enthela's transition from lab-scale processes to pilot production.

Joint Genomic Center (JGC)
Enthela operates from the JGC in Sofia with a fully equipped microbiology and bioprocess laboratory. Partnership provides advisory on genomic questions and access to analytical infrastructure.
Communities & Ecosystem

Agriventures
Bulgaria's leading agri-innovation platform connecting startups, farmers, investors, and researchers. Featured by the European Climate Pact (DG CLIMA). Forbes Innovation Awards 2025 finalist.
